I’ll Go Along With You

How many miles have we walked?
How many hours have we talked?
How many tears have we cried, you and I?
How many smiles have we smiled?

Over the years of your life,
I have tried to be your guide.
Now you need me less and less.
Though it’s hard, I know it’s best.

And while you grow and change
Our love always remains.
And so long as you want me to,
I’ll go along with you.

You prefer the wild to the road,
And you never seem to feel the cold.
Your senses tuned so sharp and fine,
It wouldn’t be right to call you mine.

For a time I walked ahead.
Now our strides match step for step.
But there will come a day, my son,
When you will break into a run.

And while you grow and change
Our love always remains.
And so long as you want me to,
I’ll go along with you.

Just like I can’t count the snowflakes,
I can’t count up all the times
Thoughts of you have moved me to wonder
At just how beautiful you are.

And while you grow and change
Our love always remains
And so long as you want me to,
I’ll go along with you, my son.
Yes, whenever you want me to,
I will go along with you.
